Fitness and wellness professionals play a crucial role in overcoming barriers and boosting motivation for individuals to start and maintain exercise programs. Older adults face unique challenges, both real and perceived, in engaging with fitness activities. This presentation will explore how the physiological response to training may work in a bidirectional relationship with consistency and progress. Finally, the presentation will provide strategies Medical Fitness Centers can use to increase participation, foster consistency and build habits that shift residents' members mindsets from “I don’t have time, to "I can’t miss this."

Dr. Aaron Aslakson is Assistant Professor and Director of Exercise Science at Crown College in St. Bonifacius, MN, as well as Director of the Human Performance Laboratory. Previously he spent 13 years as the Director of Fitness Centers for Walker Methodist, a senior living organization in Minneapolis, MN, where he conducted personal training, taught group exercise classes and oversaw 11 Fitness Centers. He is actively involved in the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and regularly presents nationally level for the International Council on Active Aging (ICAA) and SCW Fitness.
